National Health Services Directory

The National Health Services Directory (NHSD) is a comprehensive list of health services and practitioners.

It is managed by Healthdirect Australia and is the mandatory source of truth for hospitals when determining where to send patient discharge summaries.

This means that if general practice and specialist listings are not up to date in the NHSD, there is a risk that patient information may not be correctly delivered.

To ensure your NHSD entry is accurate, head to Provider Connect Australia (an initiative of the Australian Digital Health Agency).

Provider Connect Australia (PCA) is free and allows healthcare providers to maintain accurate information about the services they provide. The information provided is available to hospitals, funders, health service directories, communications services and other partners in healthcare delivery.

If your practice and your GPs/specialists are not listed on the NHSD, you will need to register with PCA.

GPs and specialists are responsible for keeping their own contact details up to date.

Full details on how to register with PCA and enter details are available on the Provider Connect Australia website.

General practices can also enter and update NHSD information via Healthdirect.
